YOUNG VOICES

A Choir for ages 7-12

Children are welcome to sing in Young Voices from the age of 7 years.

Every child who wishes to sing is welcome – there is no audition and the emphasis is on the enjoyment of singing and performing together. Choir members are enthusiastic, having fun whilst working hard to achieve high standards. Young Voices are led by Alison North MBE, a highly skilled musician and an expert in the development of young voices. She is ably supported by accompanist Jane Robertson. The children sing in unison, in two and sometimes three parts.

In 2020 Young Voices achieved a place in the semi-finals of BBC Songs of Praise Choir of the Year – before Covid intervened and the filming was cancelled.

Most singers remain with Young Voices to the age of 12 years before transferring – without audition – to Youth Choir. Some exceptionally talented singers may transfer earlier.

Young Voices have the opportunity to perform in a variety of concerts, sharing the stage with brass bands, singing with the Huddersfield Choral Society at Christmas in Huddersfield Town Hall and with Vocalise and the Youth Choir.

Rehearsals

Take place in school term time on Wednesdays at Lindley Methodist Church, East Street, Lindley
